Foundation Mass for the anniversary of the Liberation of Paris at Notre-Dame de Paris – 31 August 2025
On Sunday, 31 August 2025, a foundation mass for the anniversary of the Liberation of Paris will be celebrated at Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris at 6 p.m. Presided over by Monsignor Emmanuel Tois, auxiliary bishop of Paris, this mass will be an opportunity to bring together the faithful and pilgrims to pay tribute to this defining moment in French history, during which resistance fighters, soldiers and Parisians worked to restore freedom to the city.
Every year, Notre-Dame de Paris joins in the duty of remembrance to recall the importance of the Liberation of Paris in August 1944, a symbol of courage and hope. The Mass on 31 August 2025 will be an opportunity to entrust to God those who fought for freedom. This celebration will also serve as a reminder that the history of Paris is also part of a spiritual history, one of faith and hope.
This celebration will take place in the presence of the Charles de Gaulle Foundation and the Maréchal Leclerc de Hauteclocque Foundation, reflecting the link between national memory and the spiritual life of the cathedral.
Everyone is invited to this Mass commemorating a founding event in the history of France.
