Christmas, Solemnity of the Nativity of the Lord
On 24 and 25 December, Notre-Dame de Paris celebrates Christmas, the great feast of the Catholic Church commemorating the Nativity of Jesus.
Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus, the Son of God, the long-awaited Saviour announced by the prophets in the Old Testament.
The Church thus celebrates ‘the revelation of the mystery that has been kept secret for centuries’ (Romans 16:25-26): the first fruits of the mystery of Redemption that would lead to the Passion and then to the Resurrection of the Son of God.
