Like every year, in the tradition ofOffering of the may of Notre-Dame de Paris, les membres de la Confrérie de Saint Éloi viennent prier à la cathédrale au cours d’une messe.
La statue du saint est portée en procession par les membres de la confrérie avant et après la célébration où elle regagne sa place dans la chapelle Saint-Éloi.

at Notre-Dame de Paris
In this Chapel, the meetings of the Saint-Anne and St. Marcel brotherhood were held in the middle ages, from the goldsmiths ' trade Corps. The tradition of the corporate chapel was resumed on 1 May 1963 by the Parisian goldsmiths. The Parisian goldsmiths have always had a special devotion to Notre-Dame de Paris, as evidenced by theOffering of the may of Notre-Dame de Paris. Every year, in the tradition of the offering of the may of Notre-Dame de Paris (but in December, Saint Éloi being celebrated on December 1st), a mass of Saint Éloi, Gregorian mass, is celebrated at the Cathedral; the statue of the Saint is carried in procession not the members of the brotherhood before and after the celebration where it regains its place in the chapel of Saint-Éloi.

Each year, the brotherhood of Saint Éloi, where the Parisian goldsmiths gather, comes to Notre-Dame to present her "may" to the Blessed Virgin. This year 1963, the visit and the offering were more solemn. His Eminence came to preside and when the may wrapped and flowered had been placed before the statue of N. D. of Paris, the cross, the clergy, the chapter, the banner of the brotherhood, the statue of Saint Éloi, his patron, his Eminence, the members of the brotherhood descended the g the nave to go to the first chapel of the South collateral. Now this Chapel will be entrusted to the brotherhood. The Chanoine Le Rouzic had recalled the pious approaches and the generosities of the Parisian goldsmiths in Notre-Dame for long centuries. His Eminence congratulated the goldsmiths of today for having resumed the traditions and entrusted them with the care of this Chapel so perfectly stripped that their piety and the resources of their art make it worthy of our Lady and their brotherhood.

As every year on May 1st the goldsmiths came to offer their "may" to Notre-Dame. But this year his Eminence the cardinal presided over their meeting, received the may, recalled the tradition five times secular, interrupted, resumed in the same sentiments of faith and generosity that animate the profession. Mr. Canon incumbent Braun gave the blessing of the Blessed Sacrament. Then the procession that led the banner and the statue of Saint Éloi followed by the goldsmiths covered with purple capes, a procession of his Eminence, of Bishop the Dean, of gentlemen of the chapter went through the great nave to the first lateral Chapel in southwest. This chapel was until the revolution that of the Corporation of the goldsmiths. They took possession of it and the cardinal will bless the altar they raised there, the cross they have erected there. Works of artists, as also the fence grid, they enrich the Metropolitan Basilica as they manifest the fidelity of the goldsmiths to their ideal and their generosity.
Gallo-Roman native of Chaptelat in the Limousin, the good Saint Éloi belonged to a family of wealthy peasants who worked their own field, unlike so many great owners who had them cultivated by numerous slaves. He left to one of his brothers the care of the estate and entered as an apprentice Goldsmith in a workshop where the Royal currency was struck according to ancient Roman methods. He kept some of the income from his family and employed them in the service of the charity of the poor and the slaves. He was as skilled in enamels as in fine gold chisels. These professional qualities were accompanied by scrupulous honesty. When asked to execute a throne of gold for King Clotaire II (613-629), he made a second with the surplus gold that he did not want to keep for himself. This Act, astonishing for the time, earned him the confidence of the King who asked him to reside in Paris, as a Royal Goldsmith, an official of the Royal Treasury and Adviser to the Court. Appointed monetary in Marseille, he will redeem many slaves that were sold on the port. When Dagobert became King in 629, he was recalled to Paris where he directed the monetary workshops of the franc Kingdom, which was located in Paris on the Quai des Orfeèvres and near the current rue de la Monnaie. He received, among other things, the order to adorn the graves of St. Genevieve and St. Denis. He creates shawks for Saint Germain, Saint Séverin, Saint Martin and Sainte Colombe and numerous liturgical objects for the new Abbey of Saint-Denis. For his honesty, his frankness without flagornery and the quality of his peaceful judgement, he had the confidence of the King who often made him call near him and entrusted him even a mission of peace after the Breton King Judicaël. Great was the piety and prayer life of this layperson who often went to the monastic offices. In 632, he founded the monastery of Solignac South of Limoges and one year later, in his own House on the island of the city, the first female monastery of Paris which he entrusted the charge to St. Aure. A year after Dagobert's death that he had witnessed in his last moments, he left the Court at the same time as Saint Ouen, who was a referendum Adviser and Chancellor. Like him, he enters clericature and is ordained a priest. On the same day, on 13 may 641, they received the episcopate, Saint Ouen as Bishop of Rouen and, as Bishop of noyon and Tournai, a diocese extending to Kortrijk, Ghent and the Dutch Friesland. He tried, without great success, to evangelize the Antwerp area. Through his sermons, we know the religious situation of this time and the pagan superstitions he encounters. He endorses the spirituality of Saint colomban, the Irish monk, founded monasteries and loves to retire to the Oratory of Ourscamps-sur-Oise. He travels too. We find it at the Council of Châlon-sur-Saône and in Aquitaine, in Uzès and in Marseille. He died in 660, on the eve of leaving for Cahors. The Holy Queen Bathilde will move for her funeral, but it will arrive too late. In Paris, a church is dedicated to him in the Parisian quarter of Ironworkers and cabinetmakers, the Church of Saint-Eloi rebuilt in 1967. A church, destroyed in 1793, was dedicated to him in the street of the Orfèvres, near the hotel of the Mint (rue de la Monnaie in Paris 4ème).
