Since the earliest times, this night is a vigil in honor of the Lord, commemorating the holy night when the Lord is risen. This Vigil is the mother of all holy vigils. It is the passage from darkness to light, Christ’s victory over death. That is why, in the night, the fire and the Easter candle will be lit. The flame of the Paschal candle will be forwarded to the faithful. As in hundreds of parishes in France, adult baptisms are celebrated during the Vigil at the Cathedral and the community of believers will be invited to renew with them the promise of baptism, new birth in Christ resurrected.
